New Members and Visitors
New or interested members can find information on our New Member page. The page includes BBARC New Member form and information about dues.
Donations to club can be made through our PayPal page. Visitors to the Big Bend should try the 2m repeaters and participate in our 2m net. The repeaters also have EchoLink access. Sign up for the club’s monthly newsletter.
December Meeting on the 13th
Our next monthly meeting is at the Mason’s Building, 2300 North Highway 118 at 7:00pm. Please note the earlier start time. Exams will be given by Bill K5WSA at 6:00pm. Here is a map and picture of the building. Please note this is not the Mason’s Building downtown that google only mentions. Use the address to search maps, not the name.
This meeting will feature a silent auction of radio gear and baked goods. All proceeds go to the club. Bring something to sell!
Santa Net Set for December 14th
This will be the 15th Santa Net and a club tradition of getting kids on the air and talking to Santa at the North Pole. Actually, Santa is just a club member at home or in the hardware store on the 2m repeaters, but that is a Santa secret.
Set up begins at 4pm, and kids are on the air from 5pm to 7pm.
Santa Net introduces kids to ham radio. Not many kids have a family member or neighbor to have first contact with ham radio, so Santa Net is important and needs the support of club members. As noted above, the signs are ready. The Elementary School will have the signs for one day, most likely December 12th when they let out. The teachers will get a flier in their mailbox. Each participant gets a candy cane and QSO card. We are working on the QSO cards now.
The event needs members to prepare the RV with holiday lights and manage the line waiting to enter the RV and explain what is happening. Here is a signup list to help. The club RV is parked at the front of the Morrison True Value Hardware Store. We will put Christmas lights and decorations on the RV to make it more obvious.
Ultra Run Set for January 15th
The Ultra run in the Big Bend Ranch State Park is slated for January 15th. Here is a sign up list to volunteer and man the aid stations.
Winter Field Day January 28th and 29th
Winter Field day is a club event like ARRL’s Field Day in June, but a different organization. Here is the web site. Here is a sign up list for those wanting to participate. Charlie N5CET is lead on this event.
FCC ULS New Log In
With the FCC going to email only communications, each member should log into the FCC ULS web site and review their record, particularly email address and license expiration.
Please note that these procedures have not been tested yet.
The CORES system is now invalid but is still up and active. Use the new system.
BBARC Field Day in the Alpine Avalanche
The June 30th Alpine Avalanche has this picture about Field Day taken by newspaper editor Gail Yovanovich. We see Lonny K5LON, Charlie N5CET, Art K7VEN, and John KI5SNZ installing the GOTA station antenna. Gail Yovanovich visited the Field Day site Friday and Saturday. The Avalanche also carried an article on Field Day June 23rd, earning 100 Field Day points. Thank you Gail for supporting the BBARC. Gail had a license long ago and looking to renew this fall.
The November newsletter is available.
The new technician manual is available from the ARRL bookstore as the question pool changed July 1st.
The BBARC has exam sessions an hour before the monthly meeting 6:00pm at the Masons Building, 2300 Highway 118 N Alpine TX starting November 8th and the next ones December 13th.
Pay for club dues or make donations.
